I was not addicted to social networking sites or blogging until I encountered twitter.

Here some of my Twitter experiences:

1) I saw the best billboard ever (c/o @smashingmag)

2) Don Tapscott sent me a direct message. [ Well... he just plugged & thanked]

3) I get to share all the links that I found interesting.

4) I get to plug and rant incessantly.

5) I get to practice my communication & people skills. :)

This is for the Tweeps and soon to be Tweeps.

Twitter is the new fad after YouTube and Facebook. Nowadays, everyone seem to have a twitter account even the departed (e.g. Freddie Mercury). Because it is a growing fad, there are tendencies or dangers of it being abused and misused. I have gathered here tips, tricks, and perspectives from professionals on how to, how not to use twitter

Here are some links that will help you get twittering. Enjoy. :)

How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live

how twit

The a-little-bird-told-me cliché of a phrase is taken to another level by Biz Stone, Evan Williams, and Jack Dorsey–the Twitter dudes. Today about a million users are using twitter and about a gazillion tweets pop-up in a minute. (so many birdies!) But what made twitter what it is today? How can businesses take advantage of this?

Twitter’s (I think) formula for success is combining two things that we just can’t get enough of: text and social networking sites. This kind of marriage is quite convenient for it appeals to the multi-tasker and social beasts in us. For instance, twitter can be a platform for promoting your event and tapping your target audience in real time.

So, how can Twitter be used for competitive advantage? The answer to that question will be revealed in the near future. But for the mean time, here are the basic things you need to know about Twitter (that you may already know):

  • It’s called micro-blogging. Micro-blogging means that it’s not like that usual blogging format where you are able to write your whole life story. The twitter format is simply 140 characters. This means that it’s not friendly for wordy people. Although, it does help you practice brevity and sharpen your wit.
  • Twitter can somehow spark a “Revolution.” Since Twitter updates itself in real time, it somehow is able to document every second of our lives (that is if we tweet every second). How is Twitter capable to start a revolution?

During the heat of the Iran election controversy, their government banned all contacts outside Iran. This means no communication via the telephone, broadcast, and the like. What happened here was that the Iranians reached out to the people outside Iran via Twitter. Twitter here was used to voice out the truth in Iran.

Another example (which is kind of close to home) is when Super Typhoon Ondoy hit Manila. Twitter played an important role in bringing relief to the victims of the typhoon. It also helped in informing the public about the current situation of the victims.

In short, Twitter can be a medium to defy, change, and mobilize.

  • Twitter is for everyone. I have a twitter account, so can you. Twitter does not discriminate. Even robots have twitter accounts. So don’t hesitate and visit twitter.com :P

I declare today as RS’ Twitter Day. :P

I have been heavily using Twitter for almost four months. I find that it has helped me cope with all the stress of being an organizational communication student. It’s not easy being OrCom, you know?

So now, I find it just right to dedicate several posts to my addiction. After all, twitter is something that we should take advantage… whether as a simple human being or a huge multi-national organization. ;)
